Pak pro-government militia leader Akhonzada killed in bomb attack in Peshawar

Islamabad, Tue, 31 Jan 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 31 (ANI): Leading pro-Pakistan government militia leader Haji Akhonzada has been killed in a bomb blast in Peshawar, officials have confirmed.

The BBC quoted the officials as saying that at least three other people were killed and eight injured in the suicide bomb attack at Akhonzada's home.

His Ansurul Islam group was earlier allied to the Taliban, but recently turned against them.

Reports suggest that hundreds of people had lost their lives in clashes between Ansurul Islam and another armed Islamic group, Lashkar-e-Islam.

It is reported to have claimed responsibility for the attack in Peshawar's Bakha Ghulam area on Monday.

Officials say that Akhonzada, who managed to escape two previous assassination attempts in his power base in the lawless tribal district of Khyber, died as he was being treated for his injuries. (ANI)
