BSP accuses Akali Dal of tampering with voting machines in Punjab

Mansa , Mon, 30 Jan 2012 ANI

Mansa, Jan 30 (ANI): Members from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Punjab's Mansa District have accused Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate and the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Mansa of tampering with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Surjeet, a BSP member, accused Akali Dal candidate Jitender Singh and his supporters of tampering with EVMs at a polling station.

"One of the party workers informed me that Akali Dal candidate, Jitender Singh along with 15 or 20 other members are sitting inside the election office. When I reached there, we saw eleven machines, and a few of them were open. The dates on them were 2012 and had Government of India seals on the locks. These were machines that were supposed to reach polling booths at those places where the Akali Dal is going to be defeated by the BSP," said Surjeet.

Election officials have said they would probe the matter and will take stern action against the guilty.

"If any of such technical or procedural lapses have occurred, we will conduct an enquiry and punish the guilty," said election officer, Daljeet.

When mediapersons asked Daljeet about the presence of a SAD candidate, he remained tightlipped.

Acting on the complaint, the Deputy Commissioner of Mansa has replaced the eleven machines to ensure an unbiased ballot. (ANI)
