PCB in dilemma over whether to retain Mohsin Khan or appoint Whatmore as coach

Karachi, Mon, 30 Jan 2012 ANI

Karachi, Jan 30(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf is in a dilemma over whether to retain interim coach Mohsin Hasan Khan as the full-time coach or to go ahead with discussions regarding the appointment of Dav Whatmore to the post.

Pakistan's coaching committee headed by Intikhab Alam had recommended Whatmore as the next head coach of the team.

But former Test captain and a senior member Javed Miandad admitted that the final decision on the appointment of coach would be taken by Ashraf.

"The committee might have recommended anyone but at the end of the day it is the PCB chairman who has to take the final decision," The Daily Times quoted Miandad, as saying.

Former Test captain Zaheer Abbas also echoed the same view.

Pakistan has won three Test series - against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and England - under Mohsin's guidance.

The Pakistan cricket fraternity widely credits both Misbah and Mohsin for restoring stability and contentment to the Pakistan dressing room that had previously been marred by conflicts.

Ashraf had earlier lauded Misbah's captaincy but did not mention Mohsin's name, raising speculation about whether he wants the latter to continue as the Pakistan coach.

Meanwhile, Mohsin said he is ready to serve Pakistan as and when required, but he does not want his contribution to be taken for granted.

"I don't want anybody to take me for granted, although I am always available to serve my country. People were saying that performing well against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was nothing great, okay agreed, but to perform against England, whether they are No. 1 or not, is always creditable."(ANI)
