Khunti(Jharkhand), Jan 28 (ANI): Three Maoists and two People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) members surrendered before the police in Jharkhand's Khunti District, here today.
Three Maoists, Ranjit Bodra, Naruah Tirkey and Rohit Uranv along with Nageshwar Pahan and Arjun Singh of PLFI surrendered before the police.
Superintendent of Police, Taamil Vanan hailed the surrender by the left wing extremists and informed that a cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from these ultras.
"Today is a very significant day for the Khunti District. Two PLFI militants and three Maoist ultras have surrendered. Four single-barrel muzzle-loading guns, two pistols, and five 20-kilogram explosive containers have also been recovered," said Vanan.
On January 20, Maoists had brutally killed four men aged between 20 and 30 years in the district.
Though only four killings by the Maoists could be confirmed, local media reports had said that at least seven bodies were found in a forest area in the district.
The Maoist insurgency has gripped nearly a third of the country spreading into the interiors of 20 of India's 28 states.
This comes despite strong measures initiated by the Central Government to eradicate the Maoists. (ANI)
