Kolkata, Jan 26 (ANI): Artists from Bangladesh and India took part in a painting exhibition organised in Kolkata to mark 150th birth anniversary of Noble laureate, Rabindranath Tagore.
Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Kolkata organized the painting exhibition which began on January 22 and will go on till January 29.
Around 50 artists from Bangladesh took part in the exhibition and tried to portray the works of Tagore with their artwork.
"Rabindranath Tagore is the identity of Bengalis. He earned respect from the entire world for himself and for us. He is our Rabindranath. As you know we are honouring him as India and Bangladesh jointly celebrates his 150th birth anniversary," said Ashraful Alam Paplu, a member of Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University.
Indian artist, Shipra Dutta told mediapersons that the objective of the exhibition was to pay tribute to Tagore.
"The exhibition has been organised on the occasion of his birth anniversary. His writings, his poetry, his fictions, his letters and his other work have been displayed in this exhibition," said Dutta.
The paintings have been inspired from Tagore's poetry, drama and literature. The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent artist Biman Bihari Das in Nandalal Bose Gallery with various other artists and ICCR scholars. (ANI)
