Pak SC issues notices to ISI, army over death of four detainees in GHQ attack case

Islamabad, Jan 26(ANI): The Pakistan Supreme Court has issued notices to Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha and army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani over the deaths of four suspects detained for allegedly attacking the General Headquarters and ISI's Hamza camp

A three-judge bench headed by Pakistan's Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, also ordered defence secretary Nargis Sethi and the advocate general to file their responses by January 30.

The court passed the orders after hearing an appeal filed by a petitioner Rohifa for seeking 'due process of law' to her three sons- Syed Abdul Saboor, Syed Abdul Basit and Syed Abdul Majid.

"The matter is of public importance and there is apprehension of deaths of the remaining detainees," the Express Tribune quoted a petitioner Rohifa, as saying.

Rohifa's lawyer informed the court that the ISI had had taken Saboor into custody along with his brothers and eight other persons on charges of attacking the GHQ and ISI's Hamza camp.

Saboor, 29, is the fourth detainee, who died under mysterious circumstances in the past six months.

Mohammad Aamir had died on August 15 2011; Tahseenullah died on December 17,2011, and Said Arab on December 18, 2011.

Asad said the accused started dumped the dead bodies by the roadside after the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar refused to accept them.

Asad said that three of the detainees died due of torture and slow poisoning, and asked the court to direct the authorities to submit reports on the circumstances surrounding their mysterious deaths.

The petitioner's sons went missing in November 2007 after they were taken to a police station. (ANI)
