Firozpur (Punajb)/Jammu (J and K), Jan.26 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal paid tribute to freedom fighters at their memorial here on Thursday on the occasion of India's 63rd Republic Day.
India's three revolutionary freedom fighters, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged on the orders of the British Government on March 23, 1931 at Lahore for their involvement in violent activities.
The three martyrs were cremated in Hussainiwala village in Firozpur district.
While paying tribute to the martyrs at their memorial, Badal recalled the purpose for which these martyrs had sacrificed their lives.
"The cause for which soldiers prefer to die, that cause is yet to be accomplished. They sacrificed their lives with a motive that if the country would be free then there would be no poverty, illiteracy and not even unemployment. So it is essential for the people of the nation to have freedom in every way. However, still their dreams are not fulfilled. That is why I would like to appeal to everyone, Government and public to make efforts to fulfill their dreams in all possible ways," said Prakash Singh Badal.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also attended Republic Day celebrations in Jammu.
The day has come to hold importance, as it was on January 26, 1950 that India adopted its constitution after it got independence from the British rule. (ANI)
