Chennai/Bangalore/Guwahati, Jan.26 (ANI): Several states celebrated India's 63rd Republic Day with patriotic fervour on Thursday.
The Republic Day marks the adoption of the constitution after India got independence from the British rule in 1947.
In Tamil Nadu, Governor K.Rosaiah unfurled the national flag at around 8 a.m. and took the salute from the armed forces.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa also participated in the celebrations.
In Karnataka, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj unfurled the national flag in the presence of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and other distinguished guests.
Cultural performances by youngsters in traditional attires added a dash of colour to the yearly events, while the march past by the defence personnel displayed might of the armed forces.
In Guwahati, security was beefed up in and around the Republic Day parade venue.
Security check posts were put at the entry of the venue where the luggage of the participants and spectators was thoroughly scrutinised.Metal detectors and sniffer dogs were used by groups of armed security personnel to inspect the venue.
The police also conducted surprise check on vehicles plying on the busy routes in the city. (ANI)
