Allahabad/Lucknow, Jan.26 (ANI): Residents of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday took a patriotic oath to fight politicians seeking votes and support on the basis of caste and religion.
The oath was taken on the occasion of India's 63rd Republic Day.
In Allahabad, Hindu monks led by Swami Shankracharya hoisted the national flag and took an oath to fight against leaders who practice politics on the basis of caste or religion.
"Various associations of ascetics, monks and others gathered celebrated the Republic Day by hoisting Indian flag. It is a patriotic festival. We also took an oath that wherever we will go in the country, we will propagate that all those politicians who are planting the seeds of hate based on caste or religion should be condemned," he said.
In Lucknow, the state's Governor, Banwari Lal Joshi, and Chief Minister Mayawati presided over a military-cum cultural parade.
The Republic Day is observed to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution on 26 January, 1950. (ANI)
