London, Mon, 23 Jan 2012 ANI

London, Jan 23(ANI): Police have detained a man as part of their inquest into Chelsea fans making racist comments about Anton Ferdinand on the train back from Norwich.

Police and the Chelsea Football Club are working in tandem to find out the guilty involved in this case.

Chelsea has made it clear that they won't tolerate racism from their fans, especially in the wake of John Terry and Ferdinand coming face-to-face on Saturday for the first time since the race row that dragged Terry to court.

"We were made aware of the incident on board the 1600 Norwich to London Liverpool Street Service," said a Chelsea spokeswoman.

"It is alleged that some individuals were involved in racist chanting. British Transport police has contacted the individual concerned who made the allegations and an investigation is ongoing," she added.

Chelsea has clearly stated that if any of their fans were found to be guilty of racism then stern action would be taken against them, The Daily Mail reports.

An official Chelsea statement stated: "Chelsea Football Club is concerned to hear that a small number of fans traveling back by train from Norwich were alleged to be involved in racist chants and comment."

"We are working to help the relevant authorities identify those responsible and will take the strongest possible action should these allegations prove to be true," the statement added. The club, like the overwhelming majority of our fans, strongly believes that all forms of discrimination are abhorrent and have absolutely no place in society," the statement further said.
