Washington, Jan 22 (ANI): Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has congratulated former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on his victory in the South Carolina primary.
Romney, however, said that said that there is "still a long way to go" until the race is over.
"We're now three contests into a long primary season. This is a long fight," News.com.au quoted Romney, as saying.
"We've still got a long way to go and a lot of work to do and tomorrow we're going to move on to Florida," he added.
Romney also offered a shot at Gingrich, saying that when his opponents attack free enterprise, "they're not only attacking me, but every person who dreams of a better future".
"He's attacking you," Romney added.
Gingrich won a resounding, come-from-behind victory on Saturday in South Carolina's Republican primary, beating Romney by more than 12 percentage points.
The win is a significant milestone for Gingrich, whose candidacy was severely damaged earlier when most of his top aides resigned en masse after they questioned whether he had the focus to be a viable candidate. (ANI)
