Kolkata, Jan 20 (ANI): Reacting over the bail granted to former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury said since the matter is subjudice it would not be proper to comment on it, however he added that the law should take its own course.
Talking to reporters here, Yechury said that Kalmadi had been accused of corruption and it was upto the judiciary to decide his fate.
"Yes, he has been charged with corruption cases and we had said that all those who have been charged should be booked and tried. The case is in the courts and the law will take its course. The courts will decide," he added.
Besides Kalmadi, former CWG organizing committee director general V K Verma was also granted bail by the court.
Kalmadi and Verma had moved an appeal before the court on the basis of the Supreme Court granting bail to the accused in the 2G telecom case.
Last June, a trial court had rejected Kalmadi's bail plea, after which, he approached the Delhi High Court.
Kalmadi was arrested by the CBI on April 25, 2010 for fraud and conspiring with other officers of the Organising Committee for overpaying a Swiss firm Rs.95 crores for timing and scorekeeping equipment that was used at different venues during the Commonwealth Games.
The 66-year-old has also been accused of sanctioning payments to AM Films and AM Car at rates that were hugely inflated. (ANI)
