Guwahati, Jan 19 (ANI): A Japanese delegation has taken the remains of eleven Japanese soldiers from the Guwahati War Memorial here.he dead soldiers will be honoured at home after resting on foreign soil for nearly seven decades.
The Regional Manager for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in northeast India, which maintains the cemetery, Salew Pfotte, said there was no objection to the Japanese taking back their long-deceased soldiers, who had fought against the Allied Forces during the Second World War.
"These remains belong to them, so if they wish to take back, that is upto them. We do not have any objections to the taking back of the remains," Pfotte said.
The Guwahati War Cemetery houses 546 graves. It was established during the Second World War to bury dead soldiers brought from various military hospitals in the area. (ANI)
