Krishna in Sri Lanka on a four-day visit

Colombo, Jan 16 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna began his four-day bilateral visit to Sri Lanka on Monday.

 

The visit comes in the backdrop of the recently released report on lessons learnt and reconciliation commission and conclusion of the latest round of joint working group on fisheries.

 

During his Lanka tour, Krishna will review the progress made on deliverables on which the two countries zeroed down during his 2010 visit to the island nation.

 

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Krishna is expected to hand over first lot of 100 houses to the internally displaced people in Jaffna. In a biggest overseas housing project, India would be constructing 50,000 houses for the internally displaced people and distribute 10000 cycles to them.

 

At Kilinochchi, Krishna will be handing over medical equipments and repaired school to locals.

 

The External Affairs Minister's visit is not only confined to north. In fact, SMrishna would also be inaugurating Galle -Induruwa segment of Southernailway project.

 

Krishna will call on President Mahinda Rajapaskha and Prime MinisterM Jayarathna and hold talks with his Lankan counterpart.

 

The External Affairs Minister will also be discussing whole gamut of bilateral issues including 13th amendment and devolution of powers with top political leaderhip inanka.

 

Krishna was received by Sri Lankan Foreign Minister GL Peries on his arrival at International Airport Katunayake here. He is meeting members of theamil National Alliance and Sri Lankan Muslim Conference later in the day.

 

During his four-day visit, Krishna is expected to sign MOU on housing and agreements on railways, telecommunication and agricultures would also be discussed. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
