RIM refuses to release data related to Pak 'Memo Gate' scandal

Islamabad, Mon, 16 Jan 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 16 (ANI): Blackberry maker, Research in Motion (RIM), has reportedly refused to release data related to the 'Memo Gate' scandal.

The News quoted the Canada-based phone manufacturer, as saying that their privacy laws strictly prohibit disclosure of a customer's data to any other party without the consent of the concerned parties, and therefore Pakistan will not have access to them.

This indicates that RIM will not release the Blackberry chat history saved in their servers between former Pakistan ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani and the key man in the scandal Mansoor Ijaz without the former's permission.

The company also revealed that they have launched this response after receiving a sealed letter from the Attorney General of Pakistan.

Sources aware of the matter also said that it was not a 'final decision', adding the company was still in the process of deliberations over the issue. (ANI)
