Lahore, Jan 15(ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif have offered condolences on the death of the world's youngest Information Technology icon Arfa Karim Randhawa, who passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore on January 14.
Her funeral prayers will be held today at Cavalry Ground and her body will be taken to Faisalabad for burial at her ancestral village Chak 4, Ram Dewali.
Arfa suffered an cardiac ailment after an epileptic seizure on December 22, 2011, and was admitted to Lahore's CMH in critical condition, The Nation reports.
Doctors said that parts of her brain were damaged, as a consequence of which she remained in coma for 24 days before her death.
Microsoft Corporation Chairman Bill Gates had offered her parents treatment in the US, but she could not be shifted as she was on a ventilator.
Born on February 2, 1995, Randhawa shot into fame after becoming the youngest Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs) in the world in 2004 at the age of 9.
She was invited by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates to visit the company's headquarters in the US. Arfa Karim was awarded the Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of science and technology on August 2005.
She also received the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award and became the youngest-ever recipient of the high-level civil award, President's Pride of Performance.
She also represented Pakistan on various international forums, including Microsoft's Tech-Ed Developers conference in Barcelona. (ANI)
