Hyderabad, Dec 22 (ANI): Four top Maoists laid down their arms before the Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday.
All the four underground Maoists, including a couple hailing from Adilabad in the state, involved in various offences gave up before the Additional Director General of Police M Ratan (Law and Order).
"Maddela Adellu alias Ananda, a Maharashtra State Committee (MCM) member carried a reward of Rs. 10 lakh on his head while his wife Kurma Rambai alias Saritha carried a reward of Rs. three lakh," Ratan told reporters.
"They have stated to us that they are frustrated with the lack of progress in their movement. Hence they wanted to come out and join the mainstream. The police department as well as the government of Andhra Pradesh will assist them in trying to see how far they could join the mainstream at the earliest possible time," Ratan added
Two other Maoists who surrendered to police were Killo Raju alias Chkkudu Raju and Sreendri Subba Rao alias Srikanth, both tribals and natives of Kannavaram village in Visakhapatnam district.
State police have intensified vigil on the Andhra-Orissa border and also on the Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra borders in view of reports of attempts by armed Maoist groups to infiltrate into Andhra after Operation Green Hunt started in Dandakaranya. (ANI)
