Amritsar, Dec.20 (ANI): Over 300 dogs of 50 different breeds participated in a dog show organised by the Kennel Club of India (KCI) here recently.

A. I. Singh Bhinder, the KCI chairman, said such shows gave people the chance to know about different dog breeds.

"Around 45-50 different breeds have come here. Many new breeds are participating. This year people of Amritsar will get a chance to see more new dogs and this will excite new generation to keep dogs," said Bhinder.

During the show, the dogs performed exercises that tested the teaching ability of the trainers, the dogs' familiarity with the trainers and their ability to follow instructions as per the standard set by the KCI.

The show aimed at promoting dog-lovers to buy different breeds of dogs and help owners to pick a good mate for their dogs.

Visitors felt that such shows were a good way to familiarize people with different breeds, and offered a learning platform on handling their pets.

"I have this thinking that more people should participate. This show spreads awareness among the people about the dogs. People come to know about different breeds. As in coming time we will see a dog in each house, so this is a very good thing," said Harjinder Singh, a participant.

Participants from across the country and abroad flocked to the show.

Among 50 breeds of dogs that participated in the show were Basset Hound, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, Beagle, German Shepherd, Lhasa Apso, Great Dane, Shar Pei, English mastiff, Pug, Labrador, Boxer, Dachshund, Afghan hound, Basset Hound, Caravan hound, Siberian husky, English pointer and Dalmatian.
