Jan 03: PGTI member Shamim Khan's team took the opening day honours by winning the Pro-am event that marked the inauguration of the fourth edition of Tata Open 2008 held at the Beldih Golf Course here on Wednesday.
The championship inaugurated by B Muthuraman, the Managing Director of Tata Steel alongwith former Indian cricketer Syed Kirmani, who was the guest of honour on the occasion. Muthuraman teed off the tournament and also released scorecard amidst all the fanfare.
The Pro-Am event was played in the stableford format wherein each team comprised one professional and four amateurs. The score of the professionals along with the three best amateur cards comprised the team total.
PGTI member Shamim Khan's (33) team that won the event comprised of amateurs Air Commodore B S Marwah (37), Dr Anil Kumar (35), Shashi Tiwary (32) and Sunil Prakash (20). The team carded the total of 137 points to clinch the Pro-am title.
The Pro-Am event of the Tata Open 2008 provided amateur golfers from the Tata Group an apt platform to shrug their shoulders alongside some of the top professional golfers of the country.
B Muthuraman (MD, Tata Steel), Anwar Hasan (MD, Tata Ltd, London), Bushen Raina (MD, TCIL) and Sanjiv Paul (MD, Jusco) were some of the top executives of the Tata Group who swung their arms in the event.
PGTI member Randhir Singh Ghotra's (32) team got the second place. The four amateurs who made up Ghotra's team were B Muthuraman (30), Rana Sinha (30), Sanjay Verma (25) and Ravi Parikh (38). The runners up team had a total of 130 points.
The day's best amateur net score was recorded by Rajesh Bahadur (41), while the best amateur gross score was carded by Shraddhanjali Singh (37).
Amongst the professionals, Asian Tour regular Digvijay Singh (39) returned with the best individual score of the day.
