Benazir to be conferred Irish peace prize posthumously

Jan 02:  Pakistan’s government doing all the needless things to cover up the actual cause of Benazir’s death while many of the TV channels flashing the news which is evidence in itself that shows government’s failure to provide her proper security. Meanwhile these hubbubs ‘Tipperary Peace Convention’ has come forward to ordain her with Tipperary Peace Prize posthumously.

The announcement comes today on January 2 in recognition of her courageous work to promote democracy and reconciliation in her country.

The Tipperary Peace Convention confirmed that the award would be presented to a member of ‘the premier’s’ family in Co Tipperary in April 2008 during the International Festival of Peace in Tipperary Town.

Martin Quinn, Spokesman of the convention said, “Ms Bhutto fought all her battles through dialogue and political debate and was an example to all those who do not use or surrender to terrorism.”

“Her selection as Peace Prize recipient should act as an inspiration to those in Pakistan who seeks to secure democracy and reconciliation for their country.”

The award founded in 1984, is given in recognition to those who promotes ideas of peace and co-operation both in Ireland and outside it. Those who were conferred this peace award show a blend of people from different world brokered peace in difficult situation.

The award is also to bring notice to the world about the peacemakers who worked unselfishly, remained courageous in the time of despair and adversity treading the entire difficult journey; they emerged as winner as the face of humanity.

Benazir, who was chosen amongst the chosen few including Hollywood actor George Clooney for his peace work in Darfur, former Noble Laureate Shirin Ebadi, Rev Ian Paislay Northern Ireland first Minister and Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

This award has scripted Benazir’s name in the list of earlier recipients including former South African President Nelson Mandela, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, singer Bob Geldoff, former US President Bill Clinton and assassinated Lebanese premier Rafic Hariri.

Benazir died on December 27 in an election rally in Rawalpindi after assailants shot at her at the time she when she was looking promised to bring Pakistan on the track of democracy, and her fight was against many wars.
