Bankura (West Bengal), Nov.17 (ANI): A female Maoist Rumpa Mahato (30) has surrendered before the West Bengal Police in Bankura District.
Mahato said that the Maoists physically and mentally tortured her prompting her to flee.
"They took me with them after misguiding me and promising me to give some work, which I can't disclose. There they tried to torture me physically and mentally. So I fled," said Mahato.
Police seized a 9mm pistol, eight live cartridges, a Maoist leaflet and a Maoist map from Mahato, who was a deputy commander of a Maoist squad of Nayagram area.
"Today (November 16), a female Maoist cadre surrendered. Her name is Rumpa Mahato. Rumpa was also known as Sujata and Ashtami in Lalgarh area. Earlier she used to work in Lalgarh but presently she was the deputy commander of a Maoist squad in Nayagram area," said Pranab Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Bankura.
"Many cases have been file against her in West Midnapore district and Jhargram district. We are also contacting the Superintendents of Police of these two districts," he added.
The police are helping Mahato by providing her a fixed deposit of rupees 2,00,000 along with a monthly income of rupees 2,000.
For surrendering her arms, she will get rupees 8,000 to 10,000. (ANI)
