Madurai/Chennai, Sept 26 (ANI): Security has been beefed up at five major temples in Tamil Nadu today following intelligence inputs of possible terror attacks.
Security has been tightened at the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, Murugan Temple in Palani, Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai and Sri Ranganathar Temple in Srirangam in Tiruchirappalli as intelligence reports have suggested that they could be the target of terror attacks.
In Meenakshi temple in Madurai, police has been stationed in and around the temple premises and are maintaining a strict vigil.
Several close circuit cameras have been installed at the temple and the devotees coming to the temple are subjected to strict security checks.
The temple authorities said that security arrangements have been provided by the police without causing any hindrance to the worshippers at the temple.
"Police have made elaborate frisking and vigilance arrangements everywhere. We are giving all our cooperation to the police. Police are carrying out elaborate vigilance without causing any hindrance to the worshippers," said Rajanayagam, Executive Officer, Meenakshi Temple, Madurai.
Security arrangements were tight at the Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai, where police has been deployed to keep a vigil.
The security beef up comes in the wake of recent serial blasts that ripped New Delhi on September 13.
Public places, commercial hubs and places of worship have always been soft targets for terror attacks in the country. (ANI)
