Hoshiyarpur/Bathinda (Punjab), Sept 24 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has refuted media reports that he nurtures hopes of becoming prime minister.
The young lawmaker said the media has misinterpreted him.
"I have not given such statement. This is your misinterpretation. I said it clearly, but you people have wrongly interpreted it," he said.
A section of the media had quoted Rahul Gandhi as saying that his elevation to the prime minister's post would remain and was not a closed chapter.
Earlier, Rahul, who began his three-day Punjab visit from Monday, met party cadres in Bathinda.
He also met the family members of those congressmen who had allegedly been killed or injured during the village council polls in May in poll-related violence with supporters of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Rahul listened to the family members and assured them of "maximum help" after he returned to Delhi.
"We told Rahul Gandhi that Akali had killed two of our members. We are yet to get justice. We showed all the records to him and he said we will get justice," said Harbans Singh, brother of the victim.
Besides, he also heard grievances of people who complained of "atrocities" during the present Akali Dal-BJP rule.
He is the sixth member of the Nehru-Gandhi clan to visit this Malwa heartland of Punjab. (ANI)
