'Hari Puttar' out of Potter terror

New Delhi, Tue, 23 Sep 2008 NI Wire

The movie “Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors” after getting clearance from the Delhi High Court is set for release on September 26. Warner Bros. had filed a lawsuit against the Indian producer Mirchi Movies accusing similarity of the title to the ‘Harry Potter’ film series.

The court on Monday dismissed the case on the ground that there is nothing common between the names and the audience can distinguish the difference between the two titles. Moreover, the court also commented on the Hollywood producer’s approach in bringing the case too late, just before the release of the film.

"Justice Reva Khanna said that Warner Brothers cannot get the stay because they delayed it from 2005. Also, the lower courts have maintained that there are no similarities between the stories of the two movies. And because of the delay, they could not get the stay," said Pratibha Singh, the lawyer of 'Mirchi Movies'.

Mirchi Movies clarified that ‘Hari’ is a popular Hindu name and ‘Puttar’ means son in Punjabi language. So, it is in no way linked to the popular Harry Potter series. Moreover, the title was registered more than two years ago, it added.

The film Hari Puttar talks about a ten-year old boy, Hari Prasad Dhoonda nicknamed Hari Puttar, played by Zain Khan, who uses his brain and displays courage to fight with two burglars when he was left alone with his cousin Tuk Tuk (Swini Khara) in the absence of his parents.

Hari Puttar is an awe-inspiring story of a kid which develops in a mixed tone of comedy out of terror.

Well done Hari puttar. Warner Bros. and their lawyers have failed to protect their IP rights. It is a big hit flop show on the part of Warner and their lawyers. Good work Hari puttar
