Hindon, Fri, 08 Oct 2010 ANI

Hindon (Ghaziabad), Oct 8 (ANI): Describing the current security situation in India's neighbourhood as a volcano waiting to erupt anytime, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal P V Naik on Friday asked the Indian Air Force to be prepared to meet any internal as well as external threats.

"Current security scenario is like a volcano and may test your skills anytime without warning. These times require swift action," Air Chief Marshal Naik said while addressing the 78th Air Force Day parade here.

The Indian Air Force chief said that operational preparedness was important to meet the complex and intensive threat with speed of response, flexibility and precision.

Explaining the use of word volcanic for security situation in neighbourhood, Air Chief Marshal Naik told reporters he used the word "volcanic" because it was not known when it would erupt.

Commenting on modernisation and new acquisitions, he said that the MMRCA (Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft) and fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) would help the IAF meet national aspirations.

The IAF celebrated its 78th anniversary today. A ceremonial Air Force Day Parade (AFDP) was held at the Hindon Air Force Base, near Ghaziabad, commemorating the occasion.

The commencement of Air Force Day Parade was marked by a fly past of three Mi-17 helicopters in Vic formation. A Chakra formation comprising three Mi-35 followed them.

The fighter fly-past was led by three Jaguars in Vic formation closely followed by Vic formations of Bison (MiG-21), Baaz (MiG-29), Vajra (Mirage 2000) aircraft and SU-30 MKI aircraft. A Sukhoi aircraft carrying out a Vertical Charlie manoeuvre followed this.

The grand finale ended with superb aerobatics performed by Sarang (ALH) and HJT-16 aircraft of the Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team (SKAT). By Praful Kumar Singh (ANI)
