Ayodhya, Fri, 24 Sep 2010 ANI

Ayodhya, Sep. 24 (ANI): Reacting to the Supreme Court's deferment of the Babri mosque verdict, residents in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya city said that they just want to live in peace and harmony.

Radhey Shyam Gupta, a local shopkeeper, said that Ayodhya has seen and faced many incidents that saw the city get torn apart.

According to Gupta, the delayed judgment on the six-decade-old Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid suit has saved the city from one of such expected bout of unrest.

"Ayodhya has always been peaceful. This is city of Maryada Purshotam Ram. We have always been living here together. We have seen many massacres like that of 1984 to incidents of '90 and '92. We have faced all these events and now we just want to live here in peace and harmony," said Gupta.

In response to a petition seeking deferment, the Supreme Court had prevented Allahabad High Court from delivering the judgment on September 24 as originally slated, and has deferred the verdict till September 28, saying that the postponement is in public interest.
