Rourkela, Sept. 19 (ANI): A youth was killed in a group clash in Sundergarh district of Orissa on Friday, which triggered protests in the area.
People attacked a police station injuring four policemen and torched several shops.
Akshaya Nayak, 32 years, was killed in the clash that followed an altercation between two groups when they were returning from a musical soiree early on Friday, according to reports.
On Friday morning an irate group of people surrounded the police station at Koida demanding arrest of Nayak's killers and attacked the police station injuring four policemen, including inspector-in-charge US Panda.
They torched Panda's house, a police jeep and two other vehicles and damaged an old police station building near the new one in the town and set fire to four dumpers. The mob also torched at least three shops.
Bonai Sub-Division Police Officer P K Mohanty reached the troubled spot with police force. Six persons were detained in connection with the violence.
The injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital.
The situation was tense but under control," said the sub-collector, Bonai, Johan Deep who was on his way to the troubled area. (ANI)
