Gonda (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 30 (ANI): Floods inundated several villages in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district on Monday, compelling locals to abandon their homes and move to safer locations with their families and livestock.
Waters from the swollen rivers, Saryu and Ghaghara, have submerged several houses and roads completely.
Floodwaters have destroyed vast stretches of cropland, completely washing away the season's crops of sugarcane and paddy.
"We are struggling because of the floods; we are using boats to get fodder for cattle, food, going to the markets, saving people and saving ourselves. Jaitpur, Majharhat and Daryaganj are facing the same kind of situations and are totally surrounded by water," said Ranjit, a flood victim.
People also said the local authorities have provided no assistance to them.
"No arrangements have been made by the authorities here; people are using the boats of the village to move around. Nobody has come here to review the situation," said Ramachal, a flood victim. By Kamna Mathur (ANI)
