Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir), Aug 29 (ANI): A Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) militant has surrendered in the Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district after being challenged by security forces.
Liaqat Hussain, the militant along with his family including three children, was apprehended on Kireni border while crossing towards India on Saturday morning.
"Today, in the morning, he was coming from the Kireni post at 6:15 and the forces challenged him and apprehended him," Yougal Manas, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Poonch district informed on Saturday.
The surrendered militant said that a citizen is safe in his or her own country and that is the reason why he returned to India.
"I was involved in militancy for nearly three years. Then I left militancy and stayed in Pakistan for six years. I was working as labour in Pakistan," said Liaqat Hussain.
An AK- 47 rifle, a pistol, a magazine, 30 rounds of bullets, six rounds of pistol bullets were recovered from the surrendered militant.
Hussain informed that training camps were on in Pakistan occupied Kashmir's Muzzafarabad city and even in Islamabad.
The militant also said that only poor people are targeted by the militant groups, as they are easy to lure with money. (ANI)
