Chandigarh, Aug. 22 (ANI): Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash different parts of Haryana on Sunday with the water level of the swollen Yamuna river further increasing.
In Haryana, heavy downpour has lashed Sonepat, Gurgaon, Ambala, Kalka, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Faridabad, Karnal and Panipat areas.
Officials have stated that in Sonepat, several villages along the river's embankment have been put on alert while in Yamunanagar, situation in many flood-prone villages is being closely monitored.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Sonepat, Ajit Balaji Joshi, the villagers living in the low-lying areas and those along the river embankments were being regularly informed about the water level so that they could be prepared for evacuation, if needed.
There has been no reduction in the fury of Yamuna near Sonepat in Haryana following release of 3.2 lakh cusecs of water from the Hathnikund barrage near Yamunanagar.
There have been heavy rains in the catchment area of Yamuna river in the upper hills of Himachal Pradesh in the last two days.
In Punjab, places which are expected to receive heavy rainfall include Mohali, Ropar, Hoshiarpur, Moga and Ferozepur. (ANI)
