Srinagar, Aug.18 (ANI): Situation in the valley remained by and large peaceful barring a couple of incidents of stone pelting on Wednesday.
A stray incident of stone pelting was reported from Khwaja bagh Baramulla area. The stone pelters were chased away by the police.
Heavy stone pelting, however, was reported from Jenab Sahib Soura in the late afternoon.
In separate incidents, police had to resort to baton charging and use of tear smoke shells to disperse a mob at Tarigam village, Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir state on Wednesday, after a mob involved in forcibly closing down of shops attacked it by pelting stones.
"Today some shops were opened in Tarigam Kulgam. Some miscreants tried to forcibly close down the shops which led to a scuffle between the miscreants and the shopkeepers. However, when a police party reached the spot some miscreants assembled there pelted stones on the police team," an official release stated.
The police used tear smoke shells and cane charge to disperse the mob.
However, the miscreants didn't relent forcing the police to fire some rubber pallets.
One person was injured in the back and is stated to be stable.Some shops including that of a gas dealer were looted.
In a similar incident at Nihama, Pulwama three miscreants came on scooter and tried to force the closure of shops.
As the shopkeepers resisted their attempts, it led to skirmish.
The shopkeepers beat up the miscreants also informed the police.
However, the miscreants managed to run away despite injuries before the police could reach the place.(ANI)
