New Delhi, Aug.1 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here on Sunday evening convened the Cabinet Committee on Security meet to discuss the situation prevailing in Kashmir Valley.
Besides Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the CCS members included Union Minister for Home Affairs P. Chidambaram, Union Defense Minister A.K. Antony, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.
The valley has witnessed a number of protests following deaths of people during violent protests which involved stone-pelting on security personnel and burning of properties.
At least seven persons have lost their lives since Friday after one person was killed in clashes between protestors and security forces which opened fire in Pampore area in the outskirts of the city early in the day.
Curfew remained clamped in different parts of Kashmir Valley.
Curfew was imposed in nine districts of the Valley - Anantnag, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kulgam, Budgam, Bandipora, Gnaderbal, Shopian and Pulwama - while prohibitory orders are in place in Kupwara district. (ANI)
