Kolkata, July 21 (ANI): The Trinamool Congress party organised a 'Shahid Diwas' or Martyr's day rally at Kolkata on Wednesday to pay tribute to 13 youth Congress workers, who were killed in a police firing on the same day in 1993.
The rally witnessed the participation of Congress leaders and supporters from far-flung districts like Purulia, Bardhaman, Bankura, Birbhum, East and West Midnapore and North and South 24 Parganas.
The supporters said they were given free railway tickets on any train of their choice to attend the rally on time.
"We have come from Bardhaman. The journey went quite peacefully in the train and our travel was free. We are very happy that we could come and we are really enjoying the trip," said Debnarayan Panja, a TMC supporter.
But due to the huge and scattered crowd of supporters on the roads, many commuters and office-goers faced various problems.
"I had to attend an essential programme at my children's school, and we have been walking from Park Circus till here. I am a heart patient and I am facing a lot of problems as there is no conveyance due the rally," complained Purushottam Ahuja, a local. (ANI)
