May 15: Bad weather continued to play spoil sport in the current three match ODI series between India and Bangladesh. The third and final ODI of the series was abandoned today, due to water on the field. India won the one-day series 2-0 after winning the first two games.
The Ruhul Amin stadium was washed off heavy overnight rain. Ground staff strugged in overcast conditions to dry the field even after the rain had stopped. Umpires Asoka de Silva and Enamul Haq called off the match when there was not enough time left to play the mandatory 20-overs-a-side, the minimum number of overs required to get a result in an ODI.
"We feel sorry for the crowd but the ground conditions were just not good enough," said de Silva as some 18,000 upset fans made their way out of the stadium.
Along with the return of big guns like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Venkatsai Laxman and Anil Kumble, three more players Wasim Jaffer, Vikram Rajvir Singh and Rajesh Pawar joined team India for the upcoming test series. All of them arrived in Bangladesh on Monday night.
While as the players who will return home after being the part of ODI side are Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Mongia, Piyush Chawla and Rudra Pratap Singh.
While as Bangladesh have made five changes for the Test series, bringing in Rajin Saleh, Tushar Imran, Khaled Mashud, Enamul Haque Junior and Mehrab Hossain in the place of out going Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Abdur Razzak and Farhad Reza from the one-day squad.
