Cate Blanchett's theatre 'goes green'

London, Sat, 26 Jun 2010 ANI

London, June 26 (ANI): Cate Blanchett theatre is 'going green' with the launch of an eco-friendly construction project at her Sydney Theatre Company headquarters in Australia.

Blanchett has thrown her support behind the 'Greening the Wharf' initiative, under which 1,900 solar panels would be installed in The Wharf Theatre at Sydney's Walsh Bay.

The panels would provide 70 per cent of the theatre's electricity needs.

"Perhaps this whole area stretching from Barangaroo along Hickson Road and all the way to the Opera House (could be done up). We could be well on our way to becoming the first green arts precinct in the world," The Daily Star quoted Blanchett as saying.

"It's not just the Sydney Theatre Company benefiting from the support of the Department of Climate Change but every single cultural company down here," she added.

The actress has spent the last three years helping raise funds for the 4.5 million dollars project. (ANI)
