New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): Indian Army officer, Colonel Neeraj Sood, who was killed in an encounter with militants in Kashmir on Tuesday night, cremated with full military honours here on Thursday.
Colonel Sood's body was flown in from Srinagar on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a squad of 18 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) headed by Colonel Sood conducted a search operation in the Kupwara region.During the ensuing gun battle, Colonel Sood sustained a gunshot wound on his head and succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Appreciating Colonel Sood's performance, Lieutenant Colonel K T Parnaik, who was present at the cremation, said he would be remembered for his courage, dedication, honesty and integrity.
"Neeraj Sood upheld all those customs and ethos of the regiment and he will be remembered for his bravado and courage; for his courage, dedication, honesty and integrity that he has showed throughout his career,"said Lieutenant Colonel K T Parnaik.
"As an officer, he was very good leader and he led from the front," he added.
Senior officers placed wreaths at Colonel Sood's body.
A keen sportsman, Colonel Sood had extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations and had been an instructor at the Army's prestigious Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School. (ANI)
