Siliguri (West Bengal), June 19 (ANI): The indefinite shutdown forced by the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) to protest against alleged police atrocities against its workers affected normal life in parts of West Bengal on Saturday.
Briefing media, the GJM Vice-President R. P. Wiba said the shutdown is part of ongoing protest against the police harassment of their supporters.
"The police personnel injured our 17 men and women supporters, who were peacefully protesting, which is the reason why we will begin the strike tomorrow," Wiba said.
The Darjeeling, Kerseong and Kalimpong sub-divisions of West Bengal state are partially affected by the shutdown.
Activists also took out protest marches at several places in Darjeeling area. (ANI)
