India romps home with a six wicket win over Pakistan

Nov 26:  Debutant skipper Anil Kumble named man of the match as India leads three Test match series 1-0

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored an unbeaten half-century to finish off the remaining proceedings in just 32 minutes steering India to a six wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the first Test of the three match Test series played at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium here on Monday.

Under the captaincy of Veteran leggie Anil Kumble, India is now leading 1-0 in the three match Test series and it will be very difficult for Pakistan to stage any comeback in the series.

Chasing a target of 203, hosts needed only 32 runs to complete the formalities. Sachin Tendulkar, who remained unbeaten on 56 after reaching his 46th test fifty, started the morning course on an attacking note by hitting a boundary of a great pull shot to strike bowler Shoaib Akhtar in the second ball of the day.

Akhtar who took all the wickets in second innings removed Sourav Ganguly on the same overnight score of 48 before Tendulkar and Laxman did the finishing touch.

The fourth wicket crucial partnership between Ganguly and Tendulkar provided 88 runs after opener Wasim Jaffer 53 paved the way for India to 171 for three at the end of fourth day’s play.

Man of the match Anil Kumble once again came up with fine figures of seven for 106 at Kotla.

Shoaib trapped Ganguly with a short-pitch delivery and he played a hasty hook shot, which went straight to Sohail Tanvir at backward square leg.

However, Tendulkar turned out a different man today as he played all the shots at his will. He punished Shoaib’s rising deliveries with élan and completed his fifty by cutting leg spinner Danish Kaneria to cover boundary.

Tendulkar hit the match winning four with a square cut off Shoaib. The other batsman Laxman was six not out.

With not much time left for the second Test, as it commences in Kolkata on Friday. The Pakistani team will surely come out hard to stage a comeback in the ongoing series, as they haven’t lost a Test series in India for more than two decades.
