Ranchi, Apr 16 (ANI): School kids of Ranchi in Jharkhand are facing the brunt of heat as the mercury continues to rise.
The districts of Ranchi, Devgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad are particularly affected.
Parents and guardians have been demanding that schools should be shut down early for summer vacations.
"Devgarh district...temperature has crossed 49 degrees Celsius. Bokaro, Dhanbad recorded 46 degrees Celsius, even then holiday is not being declared in the regions. Therefore, you can understand that the district administration or the state government is not even bothered about the kids," said Ajay Rai, President of Parent's Forum, Ranchi.
"If something happens to someone, then definitely we will drag them to court. Because after even getting orders from the tribunal, if they are opening the schools and if the kids are vomiting or getting hospitalized...even then the district administration is not waking up," he added.
Schools have already changed the school timings solely to morning hours in accordance with the State Education Tribunal's order, but it is not making much of a difference.
"School management has to follow government orders. There are some principals who were against it...majority of population of principals and teachers as well as management...everybody wants that no injustice be done to the kids," said Brahmanand Dwivedi, Principal, Gurunanak School, Ranchi.
" As every student is not coming in a bus and even buses get too hot...and the ones who are coming by cycle can even expire," he added.
Dwivedi further said schools could cut short the winter vacations, if needed, but preponing the summer vacations is the need of the hour.
Parents also complain that the children are completely exhausted by the time they reach home and that there is a need to rectify the situation immediately. By Girija Shankar Ojha (ANI)
