Maharashtra Government issues notice to Gaikwad on Kochi IPL controversy

Mumbai, Sat, 17 Apr 2010 ANI

Mumbai, Apr 16 (ANI): The Maharashtra Government has reportedly sent a notice to Deputy Regional Transport Officer Ravi Gaikwad in connection with the Kochi Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.

Ravi Gaikwad is the brother of Rendezvous Sports World's Shailendra Gaikwad. The duo own 26 percent stake of the Kochi franchise.

State Home Minister R R Patil has reportedly said strict action would be taken against Ravi Gaikwad, if he is found to have done anything.

The state transport department had earlier initiated suspension proceedings against Gaikwad on finding him absent from duty.

Transport Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil asked the department to submit a suspension proposal at the earliest.

"I am surprised to learn that Gaikwad has been missing from duty since he was shunted out of Mumbai after the imported bike scam," said Patil.

Gaikwad had been transferred to Beed after his name figured in a scam about the registration of imported bikes.

But instead of assuming charge of his new assignment, Gaikwad chose to go on leave.

Sources said the Maharashtra Government will have to seek the permission of the Bombay High Court prior to issuing the suspension orders. (ANI)
