Parliament adjourned for a second time over Dantewada massacre

New Delhi, Thu, 15 Apr 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 15 (ANI): A stormy debate between the treasury and opposition over the massacre of 76 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in a Naxal attack in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh earlier this month, forced Parliament to adjourn for a second time on Thursday.

Both Houses witnessed stormy scenes soon after they re-assembled for the second part of the Budget Session with members from the Opposition raising the issue.

The Opposition refused to settle down and allow the Question Hour to proceed despite Speaker Meira Kumar pointing out that the Home Minister P. Chidamabaram would make a statement on the attack.

The House condemned the dastardly attack by the Maoists on CRPF in an ambush in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada District on April 6, which is considered to be the most brutal attack ever by the rebels.

Several other issues have also cropped up, causing discomfiture to the government.

They range from the latest row over the IPL involving Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor to the government's inability to halt spiralling prices.

The opposition wants Tharoor to quit as Minister of State for External Affairs.

The passage of the Finance and the Women Reservation Bills in the Lok Sabha is also expected to hog the limelight.

The BJP and the Left have particularly decided to corner the government on the price rise issue.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal has appealed to the opposition to support the running of Parliament.

"We may just have a wafer thin majority, but we have a majority. This is known, and, we can't understand why the opposition is behaving like this, stalling and destabilising the government," Bansal said. (ANI)
