Indian Army hosts a lively salvo from firearms to lure youth to join forces

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), March 25 (ANI): The Indian Army organised a vibrant show of firearms including firing of guns and shells in Jalpaiguri region of West Bengal state as part of its efforts to arouse the youngsters to join the armed forces as a career.

 

The 33 Corps, one of the crack outfits of Indian Army, on Wednesday hosted a lively display of weaponry here.

 

Hundreds of locals including school children converged at the venue of the show to watch this grand spectacle of salvo from assorted arms.

 

Lieutenant General D S Sidhu, General Officer Commanding of 33 Crops that is based at Sukna in the foothills of Himalayas in the Darjeeling district mentioned that through such shows, the Indian Army looks forward to beckon the youngsters.

 

He also mentioned that more of such events would be organised elsewhere.

 

"We've had the artillery guns firing, we've had the light mortars firing, we've had the infantry mortars firing, we've had the machine guns and we've had the tanks and the mechanised infantry. You see the Army continues to look forward to interacting with the public and we do so on a number of platforms. This is one of the platforms and in doing this we've had 1,200 school children visit us," said Lt. Gen. D S Sidhu, GOC, 33Corps.

 

Among the spectators was a young girl who was much inspired by the display.

 

"You always see this on TV or in the magazines and newspapers, but never in real life. To see this today has been really good.

 

It is good to see the people who are risking their lives to protect us. I will ask God to keep them happy like us, because we are happy because they are the ones who keep us safe. I really liked what I saw today," say Mary Roy, a young spectator. (ANI)
