Imphal, Mar 14 (ANI): The Manipur Government has assured full security to non-Manipuri workers in the state who were asked to leave place by May 31 by a banned Revolutionary People's Front, recently.
Militant groups have been targeting non-local workers in Manipur since many days.
The notice has created insecurity and fear among the non-locals.
Many laborers have been provided shelter in various districts.
"Certain areas are already under vigilance. But at the same time, all our groups are being sensitized and any isolated labor or non local is found, he is being escorted back to a safe location," said Y Joykumar Singh, DGP, Manipur.
The outlawed Revolutionary People Front has asked transporters not to bring non-Manipuri workers and does not want people to rent them rooms and plots, hire them as laborers, and allow them to become proprietors in Manipur.
Except for tourists, sports or cultural visit, Revolutionary People Front does not want non-locals in Manipur. It is ironical that it has nothing to say about thousands of Manipuris in other parts of the country.
Militants view non-locals as a burden on the states economy and an obstacle in development of the native people.
Violence against non-locals has been continuing for a long time.
On December 26, 2009, unknown miscreants killed a non-local shopkeeper in Imphal west.
He was working as a hawker of local bread and confectionary.
On December 17, 2009 miscreants killed two non-local workers from Bihar and Silchar. They were working in an ice factory.
People in Manipur have condemned the attacks and staged protests.(ANI)
