Nov 17: The rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) camps were set in motion in various cities across the country on Friday with hosts of international stars joining the 10-day long camp providing major boost to the big league ahead of inaugural Tewnty20 tournament commencing in Chandigarh from November 30.
Nicky Boje, Nathan Astle, Chris Harris, Abdur Razzak, Azhar Mahmood, Hemang Badani and Russel Arnold joined the ICL practice session on Friday, while Brian Lara and Inzamam–ul-Haq is still missing from the scene.
However, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who will be leading Hyderabad in the ICL, is likely to join the camp on Sunday. Brian Lara is also expected to arrive at any moment.
Former South African cricketer Nicky Boje is quite excited with the project, “The Twenty20 format is exciting and it is a great feeling to be part of this. Some of the best players against whom we have played, will now be our teammates.”
“There is a sense of betrayal among some people back home. But we knew it was going to happen, even as we are excited about playing in this League,” he added.
On the other hand Pakistan’s Abdur Razzak considered that the ICL would provide a superb opportunity for India’s first-class cricketers to rub shoulders with some of the ex-stars of the game.
Pakistan’s Azhar Mahmood feels, “It is a great opportunity to play competitive cricket of this level featuring so many internationals.
If Pakistan selectors feel we are good to play for the country, we are more than willing to do that,” he said.
New Zealand’s Chris Harris claimed that he is ready for the challenge even at this age.
“We should enjoy this format and I hope that the ICL will itself get more fillip once the ball gets rolling,” he said.
