Jamshedpur, Mar 4 (ANI): Tata Steel remembered its founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 171st birth anniversary by hosting a colourful fete named Shatrang at Jamshedpur to mark the occasion.
Every year on his birthday, the colourful fete Shatrang, which means festival of hundred colours, is organised in the city.
The entire Jubilee Park, which is a prime spot in the steel city lit up to mark the Shatrang. Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata, who is the grand nephew of JN Tata was also present here to witness the celebrations and expressed his delight at the festive mood of the city in remembering its founder.
"One is very pleased to be in Jamshedpur on Founder's Day. It displays the spirit of the people of Tata Steel Companies in Jamshedpur. The future of Tata Steel is very bright," said Ratan Tata.
Tribal folk as well as classical dances, musical performances and assorted entertainment programmes marked the Shatrang festivities that was witnessed by thousands of enthusiastic locals and visitors from other places.
Sandipan Biswas, a visitor said, "This is the biggest festival of Jamshedpur. They decorate the Jubilee Park very nicely. We got to see an entirely different look of the Jubilee Park."
Shatrang is an event that symbolizes the coming together of almost all the residents of Jamshedpur. These include employees and their family members of various Tata establishments, the youth and traders.
The celebration reflected the prosperity and growth witnessed over the past 100 years due to the forethought of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. (ANI)
