Versatile actor Nirmal Pandey dies with cardiac arrest

A prominent and versatile actor Nirmal Pandey died on Thursday morning (February 18) due to cardiac arrest. He was only 48. He has left behind his wife Archana and two kids in severe trauma and mourns. The whole entertainment industry is in great sorrow from the sudden death of this popular baddie of the silver screen and television.


Nirmal Pandey, a graduate from National School of Drama was chiefly known for his great contribution in Indian theatre. He acted around 125 plays on theatre and had also done some television serials including very popular 'Hatim' in which he was main villain.

Pandey, who entered in the Bollywood with a great controversial movie of Shekhar Kapur's Bandit Queen (1994) led by Seema Biswas as 'Phoolan Devi' in which Nirmal played a wicked Vikram Mallah's role. His performance got the great appreciation.

His performance brightens in his second movie 'Iss raat ki subah nahin' (1996) in which he was in negative shade of Aditya Adi. This film gained the praises of critics.

But, it is 'Daayra' produced and directed by eminent actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar which established him as a versatile actor in the Bollywood industry as he dared to play a role of transvestite in Daayraa (1996) for which he won a Best Actor Valenti award in France, and shared the Best Actress award with the female lead of the film Sonali Kulkarni at the Valenciennes Film Festival, France in 1997.

He again played a terrific role in Godmother (1999) led by Shabana Azmi in which he was a killer who murders on the order of the Shabana.

Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain (1999), Hadh Kar Di Aapne (2000), Shikari (2000) are his other popular movies in which he portrayed some different angles of his talent.

He came in different shades in Auzaar (1997), Train To Pakistan (1998), Jahan Tum Le Chalo (1999), Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain (1999), Dubai (Malayalam Film) (2000), One 2 Ka 4 (2001), Deewangee (2002), Aanch (2003), Patth (2003), Laila (2005), Aaja Nachle (2007), Aaja Nachle (2007), Deshdrohi (2008) and Kedi (Telugu film) (2010).

Currently he had just completed Lahore (2010) to be released today. In Lahore, he has played a powerful role of a Pakistani Anwar Shaikh.

He was quite strong in both form of Indian Cinema – commercial and parallel. In TV serials, he had worked in Raajkumar Aaryyan, Princess Dollie Aur Uska Magic Bag, Hatim.


The entire Bollywood is shocked and in great mourn, and has paid tribute to this great actor for his unique performances.
