Nov 14: Jawaharlal Nehru was fondly called as “Chacha Nehru” by children and after he left this world in 1964 his birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day.
This to remind us of a leader who carved a path for India which was struggling to stand on its own feet, the pain of partition , the wound left by British and the burden of India’s dwindling economic strength.
The first Prime Minister of independent India captivated everybody with his famous tryst with destiny speech … “at the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom”.
It reflected the immense responsibilities and was one of the most important speeches of his life, our life and for millions those who could not stay longer in this world to see India getting free.
His wide knowledge of history, culture, and science has been reflected in the books written by him, letters from father to a daughter show the importance of child and her needs.
Being a great advocate of education for children, his government oversaw the establishment of many institutions of higher learning, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Management.
He played an important role in shaping modern India; he laid the strong foundation for India’s future by creating universal primary education and reaching children in farthest corners of India with this programme.
His larger than life image and passion for egalitarianism made him highly popular across the world.
Though children’s day is a tribute to the architect of modern India, it is also a gift for the millions of children here, a day to celebrate with fun and frolic.
This is well said, “Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished for them.”
United Nations is going to celebrate November 20, as ‘Universal Children’s Day’ as it is the day when UN adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, creating a legally binding agreement on rights for children.
"There can be no better measure of our governance than the way we treat our children, and no greater failing on our part than to allow them to be subjected to violence, abuse or exploitation." Jessica Lange
Time has come to flip through the pages of history to take a pledge to provide our children a life full of care and respect for they are future.
Yes! “Children are the world's most valuable resource and best hope for future”.

November 17, 2013 at 3:14 AMVery sad story of 14 november 2013 childrens day..
A community belonging to St Anthony Church at Malwani Church,Marve Road,Malad(W),Mumbai-400095. had conducted childrens party on 14nov only with Catholic(Christian) children..Same place same time all other children were watching and crying because these commitee dosent allow any other religion children to enter in to the children party...
The main point is that this children party was held at a open and public place..
Very disturbing that even educated people are making division in the children for their own welfare..
