Sania regains her career best doubles ranking

Nov 13: Hyderabadi girl gains one position in doubles while maintains her singles ranking afterbeing out of action for the last four weeks due to a stomach injury.

India ’s tennis sensation Sania Mirza got back her career best doubles ranking of 18 th position after moving up one position in the latest WTA doubles rankings released on Tuesday.

The 20-year old Sania upheld her 32nd position in the WTA singles rankings after being out of action for almost a month due to a stomach injury. The Indian has 921 rating points in the rankings list.

Sania had to cut short the final leg of her season due to injury still she managed to remain in top-20 bracket in the doubles rankings for the last four weeks. Mirza's compatriot Sunitha Rao dropped one place to the 181st spot with 165 points in the singles chart.

Meanwhile, Sania will be seen straightaway in action in the Hopman cup along with compatriot Rohan Bopanna, where she earned a direct entry. The tournament begins on December 30.

There is no major change in the ATP rankings as far as Indians positions are concerned. All of them more or less upheld their places.

Leander Paes, who is presently playing in the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai, stuck to his 13 th spot in the ATP doubles rankings. Mahesh Bhupathi also maintained his position at the 21 st place.

Rohan Bopanna dropped one place to take the 261 st spot, while Prakash Amritraj clung on to his 271 st place. The major shift in the rankings was achieved by Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, who galloped a whooping 34 places to reach the 561 st spot, after putting up good show in the last week’s ITF event in Lahore.
