Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh), Jan 11 (ANI): The rising trend of deforestation and global temperature has prompted the school children of Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh to take part in a massive afforestation drive.
On Sunday, the children guided by Raag Foundation, a voluntary forum that has mooted this drive planted hundreds of saplings of trees in their neighbourhoods and thus took the first step in environmental conservation.
Thousands of school children were seen planting 2000 saplings.
"If we take care of the trees, the Foundation will award us with a bicycle. This Foundation should be thanked for undertaking this massive plantation drive," said Anusuya Sinha, a student.
"Our organisation is undertaking the conservation of the things related to the environment like water, plants and trees and animals and insects, which make up for the sustenance of environment. We are training the school children to take care of these trees and hence conserve the environment. We have incorporated students of around 65 schools to plants the saplings," said Alok Dubey, a senior functionary of Raag Foundation.
"This plantation drive will create awareness about the conservation of the environment and also encourage more people elsewhere to plant more trees and not cut them," he added. (ANI)
