Guwahati, Dec 25 (ANI): Theatre artists from various parts of Northeast came together on one platform recently to stage plays based on the theme of 'peace and violence' in Assam.
The two day theatre event on 'Peace and Violence' that attracted four drama troupes from Manipur, Assam and Tripura, was held at the district library in Jorhat, Assam.
The program was organized by a noted cultural organization REPLICA from Jorhat.
On the first day of the event, a play named 'Shamnadaba Mami' directed by director H. Tomba from Manipur was staged.
The play was based on Irom Sharmila Devi, a human rights crusader from the state Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence and the sacrifice of martyr Chitaranjan.
Attainment of unity and peace was the central theme of the play.
Theatres group from Tripura, Assam and Manipur has come together to work on this festival. It is like an improvisation. This is not the final one. It'll developed and continue from this improvisation," said H. Tomba, Director of the Manipuri Play.
Another play titled 'SACRIFICE', an adaptation of the famous Rabindranath Tagore's book, was performed by a troupe from Tripura.
The Guwahati troupe also presented their play, which highlighted how the trauma caused by violence in the region is affecting younger generations who have taken to drugs, hooliganism and robbery.
"The drama was very good. The concept was very clear and perfect in relation to the present context." The message I got is that in order to step up against the violence and against the dominating powers, the steps we have to take is that we have to be united and we have to adopt non-violence practice," said Sulha Audience.
The plays captivated the hearts and minds of the Jorhat audience, with their meaningful themes and awesome performances by the artists.
Such efforts by theatrical groups will certainly spread the message that people of Northeast are hoping for an end to violence and want peace and normalcy in the region. (ANI)
